Time For Prints or Time For CD shoots can be a useful way for
photographers and models to gain
experience and expand their portfolios: no money changes hands, but in
exchange for their efforts, the photographer and model get joint,
limited rights to the images.
Both the model and the photographer can use the images in their
portfolios and for general career promotion.
Neither the model nor the photographer can sell the images on the
mass, commercial market (magazines, calendars, pay web sites,
TFP/CD shoots can be a useful way for novice participants to gain
experience or for experienced participants to expand into new
genres. In addition, some people see them as a way to promote art
rather than commerce (though most everybody has to earn a living).
I generally deliver about 50 retouched, digital files from
3-hour shoot, plus variants (e.g., black & white or toned). The
images are sized for web use but full-sized images are also available.
Typically, the models with whom I've worked have prefered
digital images but some have also selected two or three
images for agency submission, for which I provided 10"x12"
I generally provide quick preview images with a day or two of the
shoot (and often on the same day as the shoot). Final edits follow one
or two weeks later.
I prefer this way of working as it's easier to be objective about the
images after some time has passed.
